Come and share in the fascinating work of cleaning Koinobori (carp streamer) at the Gujo Hachiman Winter Festival. With 450 years of dyeing history and the 15th generation of Artisans, a unique day awaits you in the City of Water on 20th January 2025. Only 5 seats available! Schedule: Monday January 2026 (date to be announced around summer) (We recommend that you book an overnight stay in the city on the day before to take advantage of the special river illuminations) 09:00 Meeting at the ‘Gujo Castle Plaza’ bus stop 09:15 Guided tour of the feodal city center (not going the castle) 10:00 Attend the beginning of the Shinto ceremony of blessing for the festival 11:30 Lunch at a local restaurant 13:00 Witness the first washing of the Koinobori from the riverside 13:30 Equip yourself with the fading pants/ fishing boots provided, and meet Mr Watanbe, the 15th craftsman of the name 14:00 It's your turn to clean a gigantic carp streamer in the cool river water! 15:00 Well-deserved coffee break 16:00 Visit to the craftsman's shop 16:30 End of the day Price includes : Guided tour, lunch and activity.
